Electro-Metrics’s Block Down-ConverterElectro-Metrics has introduced the EM-2140 block down-converter. Block down-converters transfer entire sections of the spectrum into a lower frequency range. Covering 18GHz to 40GHz in two bands, the EM-2140 allows monitoring and reception of signals in the 18 to 40GHz frequency range, with receivers that only cover to 18GHz. With the optional bypass band, a single input connector can cover the frequency range of DC to 40GHz, allowing the use of ultra wide band antennas such as the Electro-Metrics EM-6857 series, or other antenna networks, without change of cabling. ![]() The EM-2140 has a typical conversion gain of 4dB and a nominal noise figure of 9dB, with the optional internal pre-amplifier. The EM-2140 has an input P1 of +12dBm, and a minimum image rejection of 50dB. The unit requires a +12VDC @ 1.75 amp power source. Band switching is accomplished with TTL compatible signal levels. Tektronix Expands Signal Generation ChoicesTektronix, Inc., a leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, reports a new capability for the AWG7000C series of arbitrary waveform generators (AWG) that delivers the industry’s only commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) solution for creating wide modulation bandwidth RF/Microwave signals to 2.5GHz and improved rise/fall time of 35ps for High Speed Serial signals. With a significantly lower price point, starting at $5,000US MSRP, the wide bandwidth option allows customers to purchase a dual channel 12Gsps solution that will create fast rise/fall time, wide modulation bandwidth signals for less than $100,000. ![]() The AWG7000C series instruments are designed to meet high performance signal generation needs across a number of market segments, including RF/Microwave design and characterization tasks in avionics, radar, and short range wireless communications, such as ultra wideband (UWB), WirelessHD and WiGig. With the need to continually create wide-bandwidth signals, the AWG is a critical component in the modern test suite. For more information, visit www. tektronix.com. Agilent Technologies 2011.02Agilent Technologies Inc. now offers Electromagnetic Professional 2011.02, a new 3-D electromagnetic modeling and simulation platform for creating 3-D models and analyzing the electrical performance of packages, connectors, antennas, and other RF components. ![]() The EMPro platform is tightly integrated with Agilent’s Advanced Design System for the design of RF and high-speed circuits, modules and PC boards. The new release features significant improvements in both accuracy and speed for modeling RF and high-speed components. EMPro 2011.02 delivers new meshing technologies for both its time and frequency domain electromagnetic solvers. Meshing is the first step in an electromagnetic simulation and occurs when a 3-D model is segmented into tiny mesh cells. EMPro 2011.02 adds a new meshing option that creates mesh cells that more closely conform to curved surfaces and non-orthogonal edges. For more information, visit www.agilent.com. Silk Metal Provides EMI ControlLaboratory tests indicate that Silk Metal is one of the first perforated sheet metals with acoustical and electromagnetic interference control (AEMIC) capabilities without an additional sound absorption fabric or EMI shielding extra layer. Made into ceiling tile, Silk Metal achieves an NRC rating of 0.80. Silk Metal has been tested as a sheet goods to prove its electromagnetic wave attenuation characteristics. The test result is shown above. It can be used to construct chassis or enclosure of various design. Each one must be tested to gain the EMI shielding feature of that particular design. ![]() Silk Metal uses a new metal sheet perforating technique. Instead of direct 90° punching to produce holes for radiant wave energy to pass through, SMART PERF uses a sideway rolling punch method to create tiny energy trapping chambers instead of holes. The rolling punch action helps create a fabric-like surface by producing uneven textures. The combination of chamber holes and the textured surface makes Silk Metal a surface ideal to reflect, absorb, and resonate radiant wave energy from electromagnetic forces. Silk Metal is available as uncoated base metal in the size of 68 cm x 200 cm. Thickness of the metal is 1 mm. Manufacturing service is available upon request. Schaffner Expands IEC Power Entry Module Family![]() The Schaffner Group expanded its IEC power-entry module family with the safety version FN9260A. With integrated fuse holder and a reduced leakage current of maximum 74mA, the new filter series is particularly suitable for use in medical equipment. The filters are available with currents from 1 to 10A both as a version for flange- mounting as well as a snap-in variant. With the UL, CSA and ENEC approvals, the unit can be used worldwide and complies with the requirements of RoHS and REACH. In comparison with the IEC power entry module FN9260B, the safety version of the IEC power entry module FN9260A is distinguished by higher attenuation in the upper frequency range. The safety version FN9260A also fulfils the requirements of IEC/EN61010 and IEC/EN60601 for medical equipment and is also particularly suitable for applications with increased requirements for the leakage currents. Based on Optima’s M-series, the shielded cabinets feature a rugged steel or aluminum frame. EMC features include shielded door handles, wrap-foam gasketing around the door with conductive adhesives, EMI filters, copper gasket fingers, and steel-mesh gasket strips. All of Optima’s M-series cabinets also feature reinforced corner members, cross-bracing, and stiffeners to handle rugged applications. The M-series has also passed MIL-STD-901D and MIL-STD-810F for shock and vibration. Optima can also provide creative EMC solutions for advanced shielding requirements. Incorporating tin-plating or other conductive metal surfaces with superior electrical continuity properties can help reduce offending radiated emissions. Using cost-effective materials, a minimum electric field attenuation of 60dB of shielding effectiveness from 100kHz to 1GHz, decreasing to a minimum of 46dB at 10GHz can be achieved.
