RF Shielded Ventilation Panels

A major consideration when designing an electronic enclosure is how to control the unwanted release of RF interference through ventilation holes. Leader Tech's complete line of standard and custom-manufactured TechVent honeycomb panels (see p. 1) is an ideal solution.

TechVent shielding panels are shipped from the factory completely assembled and ready to install, dramatically reducing OEM manufacturing costs and lead times. The rigid aluminum vent frame is available in multiple thicknesses and can be specified with captive fasteners or pre-drilled holes to accommodate specific mounting requirements.

The honeycomb panels are engineered for both indoor and outdoor applications and provide a shielding effectiveness up to 125dB for E-field and 70dB for H-field emissions. Multiple finish plating options are also available to enhance shielding effectiveness and environmental protection.

Network Analyzer with Wide Frequency Range

Agilent Technologies Inc.'s compact network analyzer, the Agilent E5061B, analyzes frequency ranges as low as 5Hz up to the RF range of 3GHz. The analyzer's broad range and versatility eliminates the need for additional low-frequency-dedicated instruments.

Applications for the E5061B, part of the ENA series of network analyzers, include general RF-network measurements, such as filters or amplifier tests, and low frequency (LF) measurements necessary for loop-gain evaluation of DC-DC converters. The E5061B's frequency coverage is suitable for power distribution networks measurements, which evaluate the quality of a DC power supply circuit.

The series includes the E5071C (9kHz to 8.5GHz /300kHz to 20GHz), the E5061A/62A (300kHz to 1.5/3.0GHz) and the E5061B, expanding coverage to LF measurement requirements down to 5Hz.

MEMS Digital Compass Module

STMicroelectronics has integrated a 3-axis digital accelerometer with a 3-axis digital magnetic sensor in a single module. The digital compass module combines high accuracy with small form factor and low power consumption at a competitive cost, meeting the growing market demand for advanced navigation capabilities and emerging smart location-based services.

ST's high-performance system-in-package digital compass uses magneto-resistive technology from Honeywell and aims to accelerate the adoption of enhanced electronic compassing in portable consumer applications. Those include direction finding, map/display orientation, location-based services and pedestrian dead reckoning.

The combination of high-performance motion and magnetic sensing enhances the mobile-user experience in a number of ways. ST's new module adds forward direction orientation that enables application developers to improve the use of limited phone/PDA display size for maps by putting the current user position at the bottom of the map with the rest of the display in the forward direction.

ST's LSM303DLH digital compass module fits in an eco-friendly package of 5x5x1 mm and it is software- and register-compatible with ST's three-axis digital accelerometer family (LIS331DLH/M/F). Unit pricing is $2.5 for volumes in the range of 50,000 pieces.

40V Precision Operational Amplifiers

Intersil Corp. is now offering the ISL28117 and ISL28217, the latest members of its bipolar low-power precision operational amplifier series.

These new products feature an ideal combination of low noise and low power coupled with low offset voltage, low bias current drift and minimal offset drift over temperature. The products are ideal for applications that require reduced power consumption, high DC accuracy and AC performance needed to condition a wide range of precision analog signals.

The single ISL28117 and dual ISL28217 are capable of reducing signal conditioning error when compared with competing solutions. This is achieved through a combination of lower noise, lower offset voltage, lower bias current and higher gain accuracy. These amplifiers enable high gain processing of wide common-mode voltage signals with much better accuracy than competing solutions.

Mil-STD-461 Compliant Filters for EMI Reduction

RFI is offering a new standard line of EMI filters specifically designed for reducing emissions and lessen susceptibility for compliance to Mil-STD-461. The series complies with the restrictions on leakage current for both 60Hz and 400Hz power systems and are characterized with insertion loss data directly related to the Mil-STD-461 testing methods.

Insertion loss for most filters is specified in accordance with Mil-STD-220. This test method uses a 50ohm source and load impedance. The results are accurate and repeatable. However, when you have a system that exceeds the noise limits of Mil-STD-461, and you are trying to select a filter to bring the system into compliance, Mil-STD-220 data will not accurately indicate how that filter will perform when installed into your system.

This new series is designed to be compatible with the Mil-STD-461 method of noise measurement. All the insertion loss data provided herein displays typical current probe performance. You are able to make direct comparisons between filter performance and system performance. In other words, filter db reduction equals system db reduction.
