Belden VFD Cables

Variable-frequency AC motor drive output cables are subject to harsh operating environments characterized by high voltage spikes, high noise levels and adverse environmental conditions. Typical cabling solutions for this application have been unshielded tray cables, single-conductor lead wire installed in conduit or continuously-welded armored cable.

Belden's VFD cables series of 1000V UL flexible motor supply cables in gauge sizes from 16-4/0 provide the robust construction required to deliver superior electrical performance and reliability, even in the most demanding industrial environments.

Belden cables are manufactured in ISO 9001:2000 certified facilities utilizing the most advanced equipment, systems, controls and processes available. As a result, the cables provide superior performance under a variety of hostile environmental conditions.

Model 2920A RF Vector Signal Generator

Keithley Instruments, Inc. has upgraded its popular vector signal generator line for RF engineers with new capabilities that reduce signal generation times and enhance signal quality.

The model 2920A vector signal generator outputs both CW and modulated signals from 10MHz to 4GHz or 6GHz for R&D and production testing of wireless chipsets, wireless modules, and wireless devices. This no-compromise signal generator combines high speed with outstanding phase noise performance. Competitive signal generators only permit optimizing for either speed or low phase noise. Instead, the model 2920A allows optimization for either aspect of performance at any time and also allows you to get excellent speed even when you are optimizing for phase noise performance. The model 2920A can download waveform files at high speed and offers an arbitrary waveform generator capable of bandwidths as wide as 80MHz, so it can download large wide-bandwidth signal files quickly.

AR's New A Series Amplifiers

New innovations at AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation are enabling the company to produce smaller, more compact amplifiers with just as much power as the older, larger models. (See illustration, page 1.)

The new A Series amplifiers are 25% — 50% smaller than previous models, yet the new size does not mean a reduction in power. These newer, smaller models fit easily into a control room, and because of the new design, they are more efficient, using less energy than other amplifiers. The smaller, more efficient design also results in an increased performance-to-price ratio. In other words you get more for your money.

The new series includes the following models: Model 2500A225 (10kHz — 225MHz / 2500W); Model 1000A225 (10kHz — 225MHz / 1000W); Model 500A250A (10kHz — 250MHz / 500W).

Each model features the latest FET technology, and can be controlled remotely with IEEE, RS-232, USB and ethernet interfaces.

Laird Expands EMI Sentry™ Product Portfolio

Laird Technologies, Inc. has added three new products to its EMI Sentry™ Form-In-Place gasket family.

This top-of-the-line Form-In-Place gasket family provides EMI shielding while offering heat and humidity resistance, excellent adhesion strength, and a minimal compression set. These qualities improve reliability by increasing the durability and longevity of assemblies. In addition, fast handling and rapid curing speed up productivity, while increased softness offers the cost saving advantage of volume dispensing.

The three new gasket products are composed of specially-designed pastes which can be dispensed onto a metal or plastic substrate:

  • SNC70-HXP consists of nickel/graphite-filled silicone that cures at high temperature vulcanization.

  • SNC70-RXP consists of nickel/graphite-filled silicone that cures at room temperature vulcanization.

  • SNN60-RXP consists of silver/nickel-filled silicone that cures at room temperature vulcanization.

Low-Cost, Low-Resistance Connector

The Silver Zebra® elastomeric connector from Fujipoly is a low-cost solution for most electronic packages that use a component-to-board or board-to-board design. The connector offers a current carrying capacity up to .700A per square .040"and exhibits a contact resistance of less than 0.50ohms.

This versatile interconnect device creates redundant electrical contact through a unique product design that incorporates 240 alternating layers of silver-filled conductive elastomer and non-conductive silicone material per inch of connector. This precise construction provides a centerline pitch between layers of .004 (.10mm) and allows for .015 (.381mm) pad spacing on the PCB.

Fujipoly's Silver Zebra is also available with an outer installation barrier to provide an added layer of environmental protection.

Chomerics EMI Shielded Window

WIN-SHIELD C is a cast monomer material that combines excellent physical properties with outstanding electromagnetic shielding performance and optical clarity. Applications include display filtering in test equipment, medical instrumentation, public information displays and military radios and computers.

Unlike many existing shielded window materials that comprise an electrically conductive medium such as a mesh laminated to a substrate, WIN-SHIELD C is a single component material. The monomer combines excellent light transmission performance of 90% that is close to that of crown glass, whilst being less than half the weight. The material can be cast in thicknesses of between 1.5mm and 6.0mm and can be easily machined to provide features such as mounting holes and grooves for gaskets and seals.

An operating temperature range of -60°C to +100°C plus excellent chemical, impact and scratch resistance allows WIN-SHIELD C to be used in challenging indoor and outdoor environments.
