Photo Etched EMI Shielding
Tech-Etch offers standard and custom board level shielding (pictured on right) using a photo-chemical etching process providing unparalleled design flexibility while reducing the cost. The process supports very intricate geometries without expensive tooling. Heat dissipating through holes, logos and nomenclature can be incorporated. The standard two-piece design incorporates a unique, spring-finger style attachment between fence and cover which can be customized to almost any possible configuration, including rectangular, ‘L’ shaped, ‘V’ shaped, or even irregular shapes. Standard board level shielding is typically etched from .007" - .020" brass, with tin plating.Shields can also be supplied with an insulating layer of polyimide in the cavity. Multi-cavity designs are achieved by incorporating internal fences enabling multiple components to be shielded with the same part.

ISN Measures Common Mode Disturbances
Tesq Inc. has introduced a new CISPR 22-based impedance stabilization network (ISN) that measures conducted common mode disturbances on up to four unshielded single balanced pairs of cables within equipment under test (EUT). The ISN T8 coupling/decoupling network is ideal for applications up to 1000BaseT operation and Power over Ethernet (PoE).Located between the EUT and the auxiliary equipment (AE) or load necessary for the operation of the EUT, the ISN T8 establishes the EUT’s common mode termination impedance during EMI measurement to provide a stable and repeatable reference condition for emissions measurements.
The ISN T8 features a frequency range of 150kHz to 30MHz, maximum line-to-ground voltages of 63VAD and 100BDC and maximum current ratings of 400mA per line and 800mA per pair. In addition, the ISN T8 offers a phase angle of 0±20 as well as a coupling path connection impedance of © and an RF voltage of up to 15V. With adapters, the ISN T8 measures 4.1" x 2.5" x 7.5" and weighs approximately 1lb. 3oz.
Pricing for the ISN T8 starts at $3,890. Lead time is approximately four weeks ARO. Contact MaryJane Salvador, Tesq, 52 Mayfield Ave., Edison, NJ 08837, phone: (732) 417-0501 ext. 239, www.teseq.com.
Mimix Broadband Driver Amplifier
Mimix Broadband Inc. has introduced a two-stage feedback driver amplifier in a 3mm x 3mm surface mount QFN package. The CMM9000-QT is aimed at a variety of wireless infrastructure, instrumentation, satellite communications and defense applications.
Using 0.50µm gate length GaAs MESFET device model technology, the CMM9000-QT buffer amplifier covers the 1.5-6GHz frequency bands and achieves a small signal gain of 15dB, with 15dBm P1dB across the band. The device includes integrated DC blocking capacitors and RF choke inductors on-chip and is fully matched, eliminating the need for external components.
Mimix performs 100% RF testing on the device. The chip also has surface passivation to protect and provide rugged parts with backside via holes, and gold metallization to allow either a conductive epoxy or eutectic solder die attach process.

“Bent Element” Antenna Extended To 6 GHz

The AT6080 is ideal for use in both traditional applications and new compact chambers. The proprietary design provides a size reduction of approximately 60% compared to traditional log periodics without sacrificing key electrical performance such as gain and bandwidth. The size reduction minimizes field loss that results from “room loading.”
The robust design can accommodate the high power levels necessary to generate significant E-fields. The AT6080 can also be calibrated for RF emissions testing. Tough enough for outdoor use, the AT6080 features removable elements for ease of transportation.

Filters Bring High-Frequency Harmony
State of the Art (SOTA) has added a range of thin-film lowpass filters to its high-frequency product line. The lowpass filters are available in subminiature cases on 99% alumina substrates constructed using high-stability thin-film planar technology. 50ohm terminations are available for either solder or epoxy mounting.
These devices are available with passband cutoffs at 5.5, 7 and 8GHz. Maximum rejection is greater than 16dB, and VSWR characteristics are less than 1.4:1. with an insertion loss of less than 0.5dB.
The filters are designed to eliminate the need for use of multiple components where space use is critical, and are available in several standard designs and custom cutoff frequencie,s including high-reliability screening.
The line is suitable for many different applications to reduce and eliminate unwanted harmonics in telecommunications systems such as satellite receivers, mobile communications, GPS systems, wireless LANs and WiMAX.
Pricing is less then $1.90 in production quantities. Delivery is stock to eight weeks ARO.

MLCCs Achieve 4.7µf Capacitance Rating
Taiyo Yuden Inc. is offering the AMK105BJ475MV multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) for decoupling power-line circuits in high-performance ICs used in cellphones, digital still cameras and other battery-powered portable electronics.
The AMK105BJ is the first MLCC to achieve a capacitance rating of 4.7µF in the 1mm x 0.5mm x 0.5mm (EIA 0402) case size. The capacitor allows designers to obtain the desired capacitance value from a single 0402-size device, where two 2.2µF-rated 0402 capacitors were previously required, reducing parts count by 50% for this application. The AMK105BJ also allows designers to downsize from 0603 size components to the more compact 0402 size, resulting in space savings without sacrificing device performance. The AMK105BJ475MV is available in volume quantities at a sample price of 15 cents each.
