AR Worldwide Redesigns Laser Probe

AR Worldwide RF/Microwave Instrumentation has redesigned one of its Starprobe™ laser-powered e-field probes to meet the new IEC 6GHz requirement. This new Starprobe, Model FL7006, replaces Model FL7004.

Like the Starprobe FL7030 (5kHz - 30MHz / 1.5 - 300V/m), the FL7006 is designed and manufactured with an internal microprocessor that enables it to "think" for itself and adapt to its environment. This provides optimal linearization, temperature compensation, control, and communications functions. And because it is laser-powered, its batteries never need to be recharged or replaced.

Noise reduction and temperature compensation allow the FL7006 probe to deliver accurate measurements down to 0.5 V/m without zero adjustment. Microprocessor-based linearization provides a 64dB dynamic range. When rotated about its magic angle mount, the probe provides isotropic response of +0.5dB to over 2GHz. The FL7006 offers the flattest frequency response of any e-field probe in its frequency range.

RoHS-Compliant EMI Filter

Amphenol Industrial Operations now offers a RoHS-compliant series of filter connectors that remove electromagnetic interference. The rugged design of the Amphe-dB allows it to withstand the most challenging applications in the industrial market such as welding, GPS and heavy equipment. The connectors are also ideal for use in medical applications including laboratory equipment, scanners, patient monitoring and therapy equipment.

Unlike other options that redesign PCBs to incorporate filtering, Amphenol"s filter connector is installed at the entrance of a device, providing a clean signal where the information enters or exits. This helps to ensure EMI will not affect the device"s other components and allows it to operate properly.

The Amphe-dB is customizable for many applications through various filtering options and shell configurations. Its filter technology can also be incorporated into many of Amphenol"s industrial connectors.

Spectrum Analyzer

Rohde & Schwarz"s FSUP signal-source spectrum analyzer and phase-noise tester tests and characterizes RF-signal sources. It operates at 8, 26.5, or 50 GHz, depending on options. The instrument compares the signal under test with an internal or external reference; an option adds a second receiving path to the instrument, allowing users to assess the correlation between two signals. The instrument provides phase noise with an internal reference source of--136dBc at 1Hz at a 64MHz input frequency and 10kHz frequency offset and--165dBc at 1Hz at 10MHz frequency offset.

The device allows users to mark and list all interference lines or to suppress interference lines. It also displays integral parameters, such as residual frequency- or phase-modulated jitter or rms jitter. The phase-noise tester can record the level or the frequency of the signal source as a function of time, allowing you to track settling and switching of transitions in high-frequency signals, monitoring their behavior in the time domain. The instrument includes high-stability dc sources to assist in characterizing the behavior of voltage-controlled oscillators.

RF Driver IC and Integrated RF Power Products

Microsemi Corporation has added the DRF100 and DRF1200 to its family of high voltage, flangeless-packaged, RF MOSFET power products.

The DRF100 is an RF Driver IC with an 8A output capable of driving 500-1200V RF MOSFETs at frequencies up to 30MHz. It also features a dynamic "anti ring" function that prevents cross conduction of the MOSFETs in bridge or push-pull topologies.

The DRF1200 is an integrated solution comprised of the DRF100 RF driver IC and a high power 1,000V RF MOSFET output. The close proximity of the driver and MOSFET in a single package greatly reduces circuit inductance compared to discrete alternatives.

Both devices are designed for Class C, D and E RF generator applications operating from 1-30MHz, as well as for pulsed power and modulator applications. DRF100 and DRF1200 evaluation boards are available from the factory and authorized Microsemi PPG distributors. The DRF100 is priced at $92.83 and the DRF1200 at $206.44 per 100 pieces. Both devices and their evaluation boards are available from stock.

MACS™ for Electron Microscopy Applications

ETS-Lindgren, a global leader in designing and manufacturing shielding solutions for medical and industrial applications, is offering a proprietary remote monitoring control technology with its Magnetic Active Compensation System (MACS) for electronic microscopy (EM) applications. As MACS" remote monitoring control reports on electronic magnetic field cancellation (EMFC) system status and trip history, it can disable or reset a system from an external location.

With MACS, EM"s can be placed in locations where varying high AC/DC magnetic fields are present--sites previously off-limits due to interference issues caused by elevators, electric trains, air conditioning units and transformers. MACS also provides cost-effective field attenuation exceeding a factor of 30, permitting successful operation of EM"s at virtually any site, especially units with highly susceptible FEG emitters.

MACS, a maintenance-free system that can be installed and calibrated in as little as three days, reduces the interference of magnetic fields in a room through a flux compensation process that is generated by driven coils that are mounted along or near room vertices.

Ultra-Mini Programmable Oscillators

Ecliptek Corp. has added the ultra-miniature EP13E7, EP15E7 and EP16E7 programmable oscillators to its EPO family of frequency control products. Measuring 3.2-by-2.5-by1.05mm, these devices are among the smallest programmable oscillator products available in the market.

Features include a frequency stability to ±25ppm, tri-state or power down option on pin 1, and a standard duty cycle of 50 ±5 percent. The operating temperature range is -20°C to 70°C or -40°C to 85°C. A list of standard frequencies can be found on the individual data sheets.

The EP13E7, EP15E7 and EP16E7 oscillators use a proprietary IC and programming technology that allow them to be shipped in as little as two days for samples and one week for production. These products are suitable for applications such as medical equipment, LCD displays, interface controllers, portable media players, STB/video, networking products, or any application demanding a small footprint, high-performance oscillator.

Shielded Electrical Line Filter With Small Footprint

Tyco Electronics" CORCOM SRB series shielded line filter has shrunk the typical line filter footprint by roughly 25%. CORCOM SRB series filters employ a complete shield design with a number of capacitance values. Additionally, the SRB series is designed to provide cost-effective performance for power supplies and other applications where a minimal footprint and low cost are desired. With varying levels of common mode performance, the SRB line filter allows designers to address conducted emissions concerns and may help to contain radiated emissions as well.

SRB line filters are rated for up to 15A at 250VAC (10A VDE) and all configurations of the product are available in unfiltered versions, or designers may select from up to eight capacitance values for different application requirements. The SRB can be specified for snap-in or flange/screw mounting. Also, termination options include FASTON terminals, wire leads or pin termination.

CORCOM SRB line filters prices range from $0.94 to $2.79 depending on the configuration and order quantity. Deliveries are typically 4-6 weeks.
