Answers to IEC 61000-4-3 Test Standards
Changes
The IEC 61000-4-3 has long been accepted as the basic standard
for testing to radiated, electromagnetic field immunity testing
in order to satisfy many European Union requirements for the
CE mark. Recent changes in IEC 61000-4-3 Edition 3.0 include
a new harmonic distortion requirement, new linearity check,
an extended frequency range, and new test table material requirements.
Some common test problems have been brought to light that
may require EMC test labs to upgrade and/or purchase new equipment,
which has many test labs wondering what features to look for
in new equipment.
AR Worldwide RF/Microwave Instrumentation has written an application
note explaining the changes and the implications those
changes have on test equipment. The paper offers a number
of helpful tips that labs should try before purchasing new
amplifiers.

Tech-Etch Photo Etching Brochure
This brochure describes how photo etching allows Tech-Etch
to produce intricate parts for many diverse mechanical and
electrical applications. Custom light-gauge parts are produced
with intricate patterns, precise tolerances and burr-free
edges, in addition to exact repeatibility.
The brochure contains photographs of more than 100 precision
parts. Applications include encoders, masks, filters, lead
frames, flat springs, strain gauges, laminations, step covers,
heat sinks, shields, electron grids, shims, implants, blades,
stents, cathodes and fuel cell plates. Metals such as beryllium
copper, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, titanium, tungsten,
nitinol, molybdenum, brass and spring steels as well as polyimide
film can be etched.
Also featured is Tech-Etchs ability to produce tight-tolerance
photo-etched screens with tapered or straight holes, custom
board level shielding, and flexible circuits using both adhesive-based
and adhesiveless raw materials.
Tech-Etch, Inc., ISO 9001:2000, AS9100:2004 Rev B registered,
manufactures precision parts, flexible circuits and is a global
leader for standard and custom EMI/RFI shielding products.

A Different Filter Design Book
Practical Analog and Digital Filter Design by Les Thede,
claims to be different from other filter design books in two
important ways.
First, the most common analog and digital filter design and
implementation methods are covered. All important derivations
and descriptions are provided so that readers can apply them
directly to their own design problem. Over 40 examples illustrate
the fundamentals. Second, the text is accompanied by WFilter,
a fully functional Windows®-based filter design package
and its course code.
The 278 pages include normalized transfer functions; for the
Butterworth, Chebyshev and elliptic approximation cases; converting
a normalized low pass filter to an unnormalized low pass,
high pass, bandpass or bandstop filter; analog, discrete-time
and digital filter design; and IIR, FIR and Fourier transform.
The book costs $99 from Artech House, 685 Canton St., Norwood,
MA 02062, (718) 769-9740, ext. 4030.
