New Amplifier from AR Worldwide

The new Model 800A3 broadband amplifier from AR Worldwide RF/Microwave Instrumentation features a switchable transformer that enables the user to select the output impedance to match the load impedance. The unit can be set for anywhere from 12 to 400 ohms.

The 800W, 10kHz to 3MHz amplifier (pictured on front page) is ideal for applications that require high voltage and high impedance, such as chemistry, physics and ultrasonic cleaning. In addition to the Model 800A3, a version is now available that allows for higher output impedance. Higher power units will soon be manufactured.

AR Worldwide products are backed by the company’s “Competitive Edge” warranty.

New Environmental Connector-Seal Gasket

Spira’s connector-seal gasket is now available with excellent EMI and environmental protection using a new patent-pending design. Spira’s unique design includes a rigid layer between either silicone or fluorosilicone elastomeric sealing. This creates an extremely durable gasket providing reliable one atmosphere environmental sealing for flange-mounted connectors.

Also, Spira’s new shielded fan filters provide a high and reliable level of shielding at competitive prices. The filters include a patented spiral gasket and patented honeycomb “blending” process that provides greater than 80dB of shielding at 1GHz. The filters are compatible with 60, 80, 92 and 120mm fans or in custom sizes with no additional design fees. They are available in 1/8-inch cell by 1/4-inch or 1/2-inch thick honeycomb panels

Backhaul now on Higher Spectrum Bands

The DataNex II™ in-band wireless backhaul solution for cellular tower sites is highly cost-effective, providing data throughput equivalent to four T-1s or E-1s.

Among the new features and capabilities are the separation of the indoor unit and the outdoor unit to give carriers greater flexibility in mounting part of the DataNex II system near the antenna on the tower. This will help to reduce cable losses and improve the data link. Other improvements include a new overhead and control channel that allows remote alarming. The inclusion of simple network management protocol (SNMP) will allow carriers to monitor and alarm the equipment through the Internet.

Available in the 1850 to 1990MHz spectrum band, the DataNex II backhaul product uses standard panel antennas, which minimize carrier cost for tower fees as well as mitigate wind-loading and zoning issues.

Power-One, Inc. now offers an EMS Series of 1/8th-brick dc-dc converters. Two single-output models deliver 3.3V @ 15A and 5V @ 10A from an ultra-wide 18 to 60V input range. Efficiencies exceeding 90%, combined with advanced thermal management techniques, facilitate industry-leading 700 performance; only 200LFM cooling is needed for 5V at full-power with either 24 or 48Vin.

The ultra-wide 18 to 60V input range facilitates operation from 24V and 48V, eliminating the need for multiple host-system circuit-pack designs and reducing the number of brick part numbers in inventory in applications such as wireless base stations. Additional features include: RoHS compliancy for all six substances, 1500VDC input-to-output isolation, basic insulation, start-up into highly-capacitive loads and low conducted and radiated EMI.

Interface features include: remote on/off, remote output voltage sensing, and industry-standard output trim. Protections include: overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature. Regulatory approvals include: UL60950-1-03/CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1, TUV EN 60950-1 and IEC 60950-1. These products incorporate 0.43" (10.8mm) heights and industry-standard 2.3 x 0.9 inch (58.4 x 22.9mm) footprints.

Pricing is $36 each in quantities of 1000. Samples are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.

Conductive Fabric Gaskets

Laird Technologies is offering a cost-effective PORON® Conductive Fabric (PCF) gasket for liquid crystal display (LCD) cushioning and EMI protection in handheld monitoring devices.

The gaskets are RoHS-compliant EMI shields comprised of Rogers PORON, Laird Technologies proprietary fabric and conductive adhesive. This combination creates an atmosphere favorable to LCD cushioning and EMI security for mobile phones, PDAs, GPS receivers, barcode scanners and graphic tablets.

The unique PCF design reduces the weight of handheld products since it replaces the conventional metal stamping frame. PCF gaskets can be die-cut specifically to fit underneath the LCD screen in handheld devices. Standard roll sizes are 500mm wide by 50 meters in length. PCF gaskets are obtainable now at an average cost of 10 cents for a 3cm x 3cm die-cut part. Other sizes are available.

PORON is a licensed trademark of the Rogers Corporation, a manufacturer of specialty materials for use in wireless communications, computers, consumer products and other electronic products

E-field Probe Frequency Range Extended to 6GHz

ETS-Lindgren’s laser powered Model HI-6105 LaserPro™ and battery powered Model HI-6005 broadband E-field probes have had their frequency range extended to 6GHz. The performance improvement matches the new requirements of IEC 61000-4-3 Edition 3, the basic standard for radiated immunity testing used to satisfy European Union requirements for the CE mark.

The probes’ 100kHz to 6GHz frequency range and 0.5V/m to 800V/m dynamic range allow the user to make measurements conveniently in the bands used by the communication industry and addressed by the new standard: 800 to 960MHz, and 1.4 to 6GHz. Typical frequency response for both probes is: ± 1dB @ 26MHz to 2GHz, ± 2dB @ 2GHz to 4GHz, and ± 3dB @ 4GHz to 6GHz (measured response without correction factors).

Both probes are calibrated across the full operating frequency band. The X, Y and Z values are individually measured at each point, providing a high resolution calibration. The calibrations are performed in ETS-Lindgren’s A2LA-accredited calibration lab.
