Radiated Susceptibility Test System

AR Worldwide RF/Microwave Instrumentation has completed work on a sophisticated new test system that integrates five amplifiers, two system controllers, five antennas, a computer-controlled antenna mast and a field monitor. The SP1012 system houses the equipment in two air conditioned, EMI-shielded racks. It is designed to meet the requirements for MIL-STD 461 testing.

The completely integrated system includes two system controllers (model SC1000M1 and model SC1000M4) that allow manual and remote signal routing of RF signals both to and from up to seven amplifiers/loads, including feedback from dual directional couplers. The two racks measure 68.08” x 22.06” x 36.40”.

75W AC-DC Supply with Excellent EMC Immunity

Power-One, Inc.’s 75W PLP75-1012G12V-output ac-dc power supply offers excellent EMC immunity, is RoHS compliant for the reduction of all six substances and fits within 1U height constraints. The unit is an ideal power source for a wide variety of applications including use as a front end for point-of load converters, or for powering electro-mechanical devices such as fans, in telecom/datacom, and industrial environments.

High efficiencies and advanced thermal management techniques facilitate providing 75W with only 5CFM forced-air cooling, and 65W with only convection cooling. This relatively small airflow requirement eliminates the need for this 3" x 5" (76.2 x 127mm) power supply to be located directly adjacent to a cooling fan, allowing greater flexibility in overall system design. In addition, a low 1.38" (35.1mm) profile reduces airflow shadowing.

The PLP75-1012G meets EN 61000 standards for ESD, RF Susceptibility, Fast Transient/Burst, Surge, RF Immunity, Magnetic Fields, and Voltage Interruptions. Other features include .99 power factor correction, 85 to 264VAC universal input, and the CE Mark for the European Low Voltage Directive (LVD). Pricing is $45 each in quantities of 250. PCB Shields Offer RF Absorption Options

DAB Module Achieves 100-Hour Battery Life

The Venice 4.0 FS2024 DAB/FM/RDS consumes only one-quarter of the battery power used by competing modules. It enables battery-powered radios to operate in DAB mode for over 100 hours using standard batteries.

A high level of integration is achieved on the front-end RF of the module through the Apollo silicon tuner, which combines band III DAB capability with band II for FM/RDS. To maximize battery life, Apollo silicon tuner employs near zero IF techniques, making it an energy-efficient DAB/FM tuner. The Chorus multimedia processor allows the module to implement the processing functions required in advanced DAB/FM/RDS radio, without the need for an external microprocessor. The module offers the options of a software FM/RDS function, eliminating the need for a separate FM tuner chip. The module can be used as a standalone DAB/FM receiver, or it can be integrated with other audio components using external microprocessor control via industry standard communications protocols.

The Venice 4.0 DAB/FM/RDS measures 100 x 40 x 8mm and mass production is due by the end of 2005.
