Schaffner Automotive Component Testing System

Schaffner EMC, provider of EMI components and EMC instrumentation and test systems, has the first automotive electronic component testing system with an internal 100 A coupler (see photo, page 1). The system includes the NSG 5500 for testing capacitive discharge transient immunity, the NSG 5600 for testing supply voltage variation, and the PA 5840 battery simulator. The NSG 5500 features a cost-effective, internal 100A battery switch.

The NSG 5500’s internal 100A coupler allows up to four times more equipment under test (EUT) supply current than industry standard 25A couplers, and provides greater waveform accuracy than standard external couplers. It is ideal for users who test according to industry standards requiring more than 25A. Because it is incorporated into the NSG 5500, the coupler eliminates the need for additional equipment, reducing the cost of the entire system. In addition, the modular NSG 5500 provides more savings, since users can purchase and upgrade the system according to the standards they need without buying an expensive new box for each standard.

Schaffner EMC’s new PA 5840 provides battery simulation for both the NSG 5500 and the NSG 5600. The battery simulator has a bandwidth more than three times greater than competitive amplifiers (150kHz) and inrush current three times the continuous rating of 25A, 50A and 100A. The PA 5840 generates Pulse 2b, Pulse 4, sine wave noise and other complex simulations.

Pricing for a complete automotive testing system starts at $23,000. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.
