SAE AE-4 EMC Committee Meets
The SAE Technical Committee AE-4 (aerospace equipment) Electromagnetic
Compatibility met at the IEEE-EMC Symposium in Chicago in
August to discuss, among other items, standards development
and revision activities of ARP17-5A Coaxial Test Procedure
to Measure the RF Shielding Characteristics of EMI Gasket
Materials and ARP5581 Users Guide for the Data
Items Descriptions to MIL-STD-464.
This committee addresses all facets of EMC on aircraft-design,
testing, measurement, procedures, and in-service experience.
Their focus is on electrical equipment, electronic equipment,
propulsion systems, and electrical accessories compatibility
(both intra-system and inter-system) with spacecraft, launch
vehicles and aircraft. The group has published more than 30
technical reports in the form of engineering standards, specifications,
information reports and recommended practices, which are issued
for the general information of industry and government.
The committee chair is Gary Fenical of Laird Technologies,
vice chair is Michael Oliver of MAJR, and secretary is David
Brumbaugh of The Boeing Co.
Participants in the SAE AE-4 committee include original equipment
manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, consulting firms, government,
academia, and others across the aerospace and defense industries.
